In accordance with LAA’s Strategic Plan and the Objective of increasing accessibility to National Championships to provide more opportunity to an increased number of athletes the first phase of this expansion will be implemented and trialed in 2023 with the introduction of the Australian Junior Athletics Championships.

With the U13 and U15 age groups currently provided with a National Opportunity at the Australian Little Athletics Championship expansion for the U14 age group provided the opportunity to introduce an U13+ pathway.

LAA has consulted extensively with Member Associations to deliver expansion in 2023 while retaining the strength of ALAC and accommodating the differing Travel and Team Management approaches of each Member Association.

The existing strength and what ALAC is best known for and remembered by athletes is the Teams aspect of the National Championships and this has been incorporated into the new Australian Junior Athletics Championships.
