We are excited to launch a National trial of the On Track program, a skills and fitness program that’s non-stop fun!
Over 30 centres across Australia will be participating in the pilot of the program.
Narrabri Little Athletics Centre is one of the first centres to start piloting the program, which delighted the hardworking committee at Narrabri Little Athletics.
On Track is a new way of teaching young children the basic skills of athletics, giving them a sound preparation before they move on to a competitive environment.
It is a training program based on research that has been done on how children learn sporting skills, what children want out of their early sporting experiences and the learning capacities of children at different ages.
The program has five levels.
Under-6 children start at level one and each year graduate one level.
Each level is more complex.
It is up to the individual centres as to how many levels are taught, but it was recommended that children complete three levels.
Little Athletics NSW participation coordinator Dom Marsh travelled from Sydney last Wednesday to oversee a session of the newly-implemented program.
“We are hoping that this type of product will be similar to an Auskick in AFL or a Milo Cricket type thing in cricket, where it’s an identifiable athletics product that families will identify with and want to get their kids involved in little athletics,” Marsh said.
Any enquiries about the pilot please contact Andrew Johnston in the Coles LAA office on 03 9682 1511 or email at a.johnston@littleathletics.com.au.
