It is with great excitement that we are able to congratulate Little Athletics WA and Athletics WA on their unification under the Athletics West Constitution, forming one State sporting body.
Coles Little Athletics Australia would like to congratulate everyone involved in achieving this significant outcome for athletics in Western Australia and the leadership demonstrated by both organisations.
At the respective Special General Meetings this week, both LAWA Centres and AWA Clubs voted overwhelmingly in favour of the adoption of the AW Constitution and the dissolution of the previous organisations to move forward with one State Sporting body.
Whilst LAWA and AWA have been operating under the One Management Model since October 2019, this defining moment will see WA lead the way in the ‘One Sport’ movement, as we continue to demonstrate the increased efficiencies, clearer pathways and new opportunities for innovation as one body.
The Athletics Chief Executive Officer, Vince Del Prete said “this ushers in a new era for the sport in WA and leading the way for the rest of Australia to unify. This historical decision by the Members means that the sport can now work as one with a clear direction and ability to ensure an enhanced delivery service to all current and future Members, State-wide. In the coming weeks, the sport will be rebranded under the new Athletics West visual identity, with a new logo, email addresses, website and social channels set to be launched in July 2020”.
The new Board of Athletics West will come into effect from the 1 July 2020 and commence an exciting new era for athletics in Western Australia. Teresa Blackman will lead the new Board as Chair in the first year with Tim Lyons as Deputy Chair, with the roles to be reversed in year two. The other members of the Board will be David Rowe, Fiona Bow, Louise Soia, Lee Hutton, Dr John Forbes, Ashani Seneviratne and Dr Rishelle Hume.
