Records galore at the huge summer carnival

Lake Illawarra Little Athletics Club were among the record breakers in hosting another highly successful annual Summer Carnival at Myimbarr Community Park.

The summer carnival attracted 300 boys and girls from under 5s to under 17s plus some in Opens from 36 athletics centres across NSW and the ACT.

The massive turnout makes it the biggest single day Little Athletics Carnival on the Illawarra and South Coast.

The Summer Carnival featured athletes competing in a variety of track and field events from the sprint, distance, walks, throw and jumps.

 There were numerous Personal Bests and 13 athletes broke carnival records, from under 9s through to under 17s, including two from host club Lake Illawarra.

In the under 9s girls  700m Walk, Lake Illawarra’s Aleisha McGarry broke the carnival record, while in the

under 11 Boys Javelin, Drew Langdon also set a new record.

Talented Albion Park youngster Chelsea Ezeoke also broke the Shot Put record in her under 11 Girls event, while Shoalhaven Little Athletics Club had two record breakers.

In the under 11 Boys 1100m Walk, Kade Dhu set a new mark, while in the under 17 Boys 1500m Walk, Corey McConville (Shoalhaven) also set a new record.

Visiting clubs also had some top performers. In the under 11 Girls, Kaiya Gerbert (Cherrybrook) broke the record for the 1100m Walk, while in under 12 Girls, Isabella Farrell (Preston Robbins) also broke the old mark for the 1500m Walk.

In under 15 Girls, Cherrybrook’s Aimee Bowrey set a record for both the Javelin and 300m Hurdles. In under 17 Girls, Smithfield’s Natasha Milakovic broke the Javelin mark. In Girls U17, Jemma Antonious (Holroyd) broke the 300m Hurdles record.

A new Discus record was set in the Boys U9s by Smithfield’s Jozef Cluff and U10s by Emillio Martinez (Liverpool).

Finally in under 15 Boys age group, Thomas Power (St Georges Basin) showed he was one of the top performers at the carnival by setting a record in the Javelin and 300m Hurdles.
