All the athletes from South Coast Little Athletics did very well at the 2019 State Cross Country Championships late last month.
It was a stunning day on Sunday, July 21, for the 2019 State Cross Country Championships in Carisbrooke Park, Salisbury Park and the athletes from the South Coast Little Athletics represented the region with pride.
In a reprieve from the wintry weather, the sun came out and the wind held off to create fantastic running conditions. Athletes came from as far away as Port Lincoln and Mildura to compete in what is the pinnacle event for the Little Athletes Cross Country Season.
A team of five athletes from South Coast Little Athletics Club made the journey to Salisbury Park after a strong season of running and they didn’t disappoint.
The South Coast athletes performed outstandingly on a course that proved challenging for the runners with many different technical aspects, including some very steep hill climbs and descents, creek and bridge crossings, as well as some tight corners and jumps.
Abigail Ellis finished fifth in the under 12 girls 2km, Grace Rogers came fourth in the under 11 girls 2km, Kate Rogers finished fourth in the under 9 girls 1.5km and in what has been a tight race all season, Charlie Ellis won a bronze medal and Charlie Soper finished his first season of athletics with a fifth place, both in the under 9 boys 1.5km.
South Coast Little Athletics Club spokesperson said the club was very proud of the dedication and good sportsmanship that these amazing little athletes have shown this season.

With the close of the cross country season, focus now turns to preparations for the summer athletics season.
South Coast Little Athletics will be holding a registration day on Sunday, September 1, before competition commences in October. Like the South Coast facebook page be kept up to date with more details.
Results – Under 9 Girls (1.5km) Kate Rogers came fourth in a group of 20 girls, U9 Boys (1.5 km) Charlie Soper (6.42) came fifth and Charlie Ellis (6.14) third. It was a nail biting finish with only two seconds between first and third place! 17 boys ran in this group. Under 11 girls (2 km) Grace Rogers (9.52) fourth in a group of 18 girls and U12 girls (2 km) Abi Ellis (10.52) sixth in a group of 12.
