“a life well run”
Rest in peace
After a distinguished career as a Runner and Administrator with the South Australian Athletic League, Greg took the family of 3 children along to the very first meetings of the Port Adelaide Little Athletics Club and the start of Little Athletics in South Australia in 1973. In 1974 his son David made the SA State team.
Greg and wife Margaret were founding members of the Woodville LAC. Greg as a coach and Margaret in administration where she was recognised with Life Membership and son Peter was one of the first inductees in the Woodville “100 Club”.
Greg became President of South Australia Little Athletics and Margaret the Administration officer.
Both Greg and Margaret held various roles as Team Manager or coach of the SA Little Athletics State teams over the years. Greg coached his first National Champion in 1975 and over the years his team of runners won many National Track and Field titles.
Past President of Australian Little Athletics from 1980 -1984.
In 1990 Greg took up the role of Athletics NT General Manager and oversaw the construction of the Marrara Athletics Stadium and preparation for the 1992 Pacific School Games.
Greg’s life-time involvement continued into his 80’s where he was still running an Active for Life program at the Port Adelaide Athletics Club.
In 2000 his contribution to Athletics saw him receive the honour to carry the Olympic Torch through Port Adelaide.
Nothing gave Greg more satisfaction than seeing young people participating in Athletics and sport.
“As I reflect on our family life, a picnic or holiday for our family was a day or days at the Sports Fields”, Margaret Adams.
