Coles Little Athletics Australia wish to extend our deepest sympathies to Trevor, family and friends in the passing of Maxine.
In 1971 Maxine’s three children joined Northern Districts LAC which then competed at Perry Lakes LAC (now known as UWALAC).
From 1971 to 1976 Maxine became heavily involved with the club holding positions as Club Records & Ranking Officer, Registrar, Treasurer and Team Manageress. She also trained a Relay team for each of those years.
In 1972/73 Maxine took on the position Championships Officer on the Parry Lakes LAC Executive. Then from 1973 to 1976 she held the position of Records & Ranking. She also assisted at State and Inter State Championships with the recording and was a delegate for Perry Lakes to the Association meeting.
For 5 years Maxine fulfilled her roles at both Club and Centre level enthusiastically and efficiently. It would be true to say that Maxine was a driving force at the Centre and made a significant contribution to the success of the Centre.
In 1976 Maxine was co-opted on to the WALA Board of Management as publicity officer for one year and then became the Association’s registrar until 1983. Maxine was employed as the WALA secretary in 1983, a position she held until 1994.
In 1978 she was the Team Manageress for the ALAC WA Team which competed in Canberra and then again in 1979 when they competed in Perth.
Her close involvement with the Association made her natural choice to represent WALA as their delegate to the Australian Little Athletics Union conferences which she attended many times.
In 1986 along with Board member Stuart Dunne, Maxine was responsible for the starting of the much revered competition with Singapore and five years later Malaysia joined in this competition. This Tri Nation competition has been a yearly event ever since and many young athletes 14 and 15 vie for the chance to represent WA and travel to Singapore of Kuala Lumpur for a life memory experience. Both Singapore and Malaysia still bring down teams to compete at the WALA State Track & Field Championships
In 1996 Maxine became a voluntary administration assistant, helping the ALA Administration/Finance Director with secretarial work. When the Administration/Finance Director resigned in April 1996 Maxine was nominated and duly elected to the position in September 1996. She held this position until she tried to retire in April 2001, but remained as administration secretary for 12 months until a full time employee took over.
After this she became the co-ordinator for the new ALA website and finally retired in September 2002.
