Coles Little Athletics Australia is saddened to announce the passing of 2019 Hall of Fame Inductee Robert ‘Bob’ Chalmers.
Bob was an integral member of the Western Australian Little Athletics community for over 50 years. His contributions spanning across both winter and summer seasons, in variety of roles from various centre and club committees, to coaching, officiating and team management.
Bob was awarded Life Member at Rockingham Little Athletics Centre, WA Award of Merit & Recipient, Distinguished Merit Award in 2003, Life Membership to Athletics West in 2019, as well as LAA Hall of Fame Inductee for the Volunteer Category in 2019.
He was passionate coach and mentored many young athletes, and was able to provide them with motivation, encouragement and confidence through his extensive knowledge of the sport. Bob contributed his time and service to Rockingham Little Athletics Centre and the Bungaree Little Athletics Club. Where he coached countless number of little athletes to reach their best at club level, centre level, State Development Squads and various State Teams including ALAC and the WA International team.
Bob was also a very keen and dedicated official and has undertaken nearly every role from his involvement at Club, Centre, State & National level. As well as officiating on the world stage at Commonwealth Games, World Masters Championships, Oceania Championships and World Para Championships. Bob was always happy to share his knowledge and mentor up and coming officials.
His presence will no doubt be missed across all facets of the sport.
